Risk & Compliance Assurance Manager

Alexander Barnes · London, Greater London

Overview

Your investigative discipline and regulatory rigour map directly to building assurance frameworks and challenging the business.

About this role

Alexander-Barnes are working with a fast-growing, well-funded FinTech Lender that's just closed a significant funding round. Off the back of that, they're putting real investment into their Risk & Compliance function, and this brand-new role is central to that plan.

Most compliance monitoring roles ask you to step into something that's already up and running. This one's different, you'd be starting from scratch, building the Risk and Compliance Monitoring Plan yourself from the second line, with a direct line into the Risk Committee, regulators and partner banks.

What the role involves

  • Leading the monitoring plan independently of the advisory team, which means real oversight and real challenge back to the first line.
  • Deciding how reviews get scoped, run and reported
  • Designing and run thematic reviews and control tests across the business's products, processes and partner relationships.
  • Pull findings together across Compliance, Financial Crime and the international teams, chase actions through to closure.
  • Report directly to the Risk Committee, senior leadership and partner banks.
  • On top of your own reviews, you'll QA the work other teams produce to keep standards consistent across the board.

What we're looking for

  • Have experience in owning or running a Compliance Monitoring or independent assurance programme end-to-end at a UK FCA-regulated firm, rather than just contributed to one.
  • You'll need a genuine second-line mindset: comfortable challenging the business, not just observing it.
  • A track record of building risk-based monitoring plans is essential, as is solid working knowledge of FCA SYSC and the EMD/PSD regime
  • Experience designing thematic reviews and control tests matters,
  • Ability to present findings to senior stakeholders and partner banks
  • Experience in working in Fintech, Payments or an EMI (desired)
  • ICA Diploma, ACAMS, IIA or similar (desired)
