About this role

About the Team

Manchester Metropolitan University Security is a professional, customer-focused service that operates with pride, integrity and dedication 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Our Security Service is made up of four teams providing round-the-clock support across the University's campuses. Each team is led by a Security Supervisor and Duty Manager, reporting to the Campus Security Operations Manager and Head of Security.

As the University's first point of response, our Security Officers play a vital role in maintaining a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for students, staff and visitors. No two shifts are the same. From responding to emergencies and providing first aid, to supporting major events, investigating incidents, conducting building lock and unlock procedures, writing reports and offering welfare support, our team makes a real difference every day.

This is far more than a traditional security role. While security experience is welcomed, it is not essential. We are looking for people with the right attitude, excellent customer service skills and a genuine desire to help others.

As one of the University's first responders, you will deal with a wide variety of incidents relating to safety, security and wellbeing. You will need to remain calm under pressure, make sound decisions, and demonstrate empathy and professionalism when supporting people who may be vulnerable or in distress.

At the beginning of each shift, you will receive a briefing from your Campus Security Supervisor outlining priorities, responsibilities and your allocated patrol area. Using your initiative and judgement, you will respond to incidents, carry out patrols and work collaboratively with colleagues to provide an outstanding service across the University.

Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a positive impact.

About You

We're looking for enthusiastic, proactive and reliable individuals who take pride in delivering excellent customer service and working as part of a supportive team.

You will have

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A calm and professional approach, particularly in challenging situations.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise your workload.
  • The confidence to use your initiative and make informed decisions.
  • A commitment to teamwork and supporting colleagues.
  • A genuine passion for helping people and creating a safe, inclusive environment.

Whether your background is in security, hospitality, customer service, emergency response or another people-focused role, we'd love to hear from you if you have the right values and transferable skills.

Why Join Us?

Working within Manchester Metropolitan University's Security Service means becoming part of a respected team that is committed to protecting our community while delivering an exceptional customer experience. You'll have the opportunity to develop your skills, work in a varied and rewarding environment, and contribute to the safety and wellbeing of thousands of students, staff and visitors every day.

How to Apply

If you're excited by the opportunity to join our team, we'd love to hear from you.

Please read the job description carefully and ensure your application demonstrates how you meet the essential criteria. Submit your CV together with a covering letter outlining your experience, transferable skills and what makes you an excellent fit for the role.

Manchester Metropolitan University fosters an inclusive culture of belonging that promotes equity and celebrates diversity. We value a diverse workforce for the innovation and diversity of thought it brings and welcome applications from all local and international communities, including Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, disabled people, and LGBTQ+ individuals.
