Cyber Security Engineer

Recruit with Purpose · London, Greater London

Overview

Your incident response and structured alerting from policing transfer directly to security operations.

About this role

Are you a cyber security professional who wants to make a tangible, visible impact rather than being one voice in a large team?

A well-established Housing Association in London is looking for a Cyber Security Engineer to join a small, close-knit security function and take ownership of a significant vulnerability management transformation.

It's an exciting time to join. The team is investing in an advanced Tenable licence, opening up a whole new suite of tools and modules, and you'll be the one driving that rollout from the ground up, alongside the organisation's day-to-day security operations.

You will be someone who can take a task and run with it independently, bring structure to alerting and incident response, and help continuously strengthen the organisation's security posture across a genuinely varied workload.

As Cyber Security Engineer, you'll be responsible for

  • Owning the onboarding and adoption of new Tenable tools and modules, taking vulnerability management to the next level.
  • Administering, monitoring and overseeing security operations across Microsoft 365, including Defender, Purview, Entra ID, Exchange Online and Teams.
  • Managing incidents day-to-day, from SOC triage through to resolution, using SIEM/SOAR platforms.
  • Conducting threat hunting and staying current with emerging security threats and trends.
  • Supporting the organisation's alignment with Cyber Essentials Plus and contributing to wider security reviews and audits.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Solid experience in an information or cyber security engineering role, ideally within a larger or public sector organisation.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Security technologies, with hands-on Defender experience.
  • Exposure to Sentinel or similar SIEM/SOAR platforms, with a structured approach to alerting and response.
  • CompTIA Security+ as a baseline; SC-200/300/400, CEH, CISSP or CCNA are a plus but not essential.
  • A self-sufficient, can-do attitude with genuine curiosity about the evolving threat landscape.

Cyber Essentials Plus experience would be preferred, although I'm also interested in speaking with candidates who bring strong Microsoft security and SIEM/SOAR experience from other complex, regulated environments.

The role offers hybrid working in London with a salary of up to £65,000, alongside a collaborative team environment and genuine scope to shape how the function operates.
