Fire Watch Security Officer – Residential Building

Pay: £15 per hour/ £32,760.00 per annum

Employment: PAYE

Shift pattern: Four days on, four days off

Hours: 12-hour shifts — 08:00–20:00 or 20:00–08:00

Blackwood Security Ltd is recruiting reliable and professional Security Officers to provide continuous fire-watch cover at a residential building in London.

The role involves conducting regular patrols, monitoring for signs of fire or other hazards and, in the event of a fire, raising the alarm and evacuating residents in accordance with the building’s emergency procedures.

Main responsibilities

  • Conduct scheduled fire-watch patrols throughout the building
  • Remain alert for signs of fire, smoke and other safety hazards
  • Check communal areas, escape routes, stairwells and fire doors
  • Maintain accurate patrol records and written shift logs
  • Raise the alarm immediately in the event of a fire
  • Contact the emergency services when required
  • Alert and evacuate residents in accordance with the building’s emergency plan
  • Assist residents who may require additional support during an evacuation
  • Report hazards, defects and safety concerns promptly
  • Complete thorough handovers to the incoming officer
  • Maintain a professional and approachable presence
  • Follow all site procedures, emergency plans and company policies

Applicants must

  • Hold a valid SIA licence
  • Have the legal right to work in the UK
  • Be dependable, punctual and comfortable working independently
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills
  • Be physically capable of completing regular patrols across a multi-storey building
  • Be confident raising the alarm and assisting with an evacuation
  • Remain calm and act appropriately during an emergency
  • Be available for both day and night shifts where required
  • Supply and maintain their own suitable black security uniform, including black trousers, a plain black shirt or polo shirt and black footwear

Previous experience in fire watch, waking watch, residential security or fire safety is preferred, although full site-specific training will be provided.
