We are seeking a capable and driven Junior Cyber Security Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background across Microsoft environments, networking, and security, with hands-on experience supporting and enhancing enterprise infrastructure. This role plays a key part in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of our systems, while contributing to ongoing projects, automation, and operational improvements.

As a Junior Cyber Security Analyst, you will play an important role in monitoring, investigating and responding to security events across the business.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Monitoring and triaging security alerts generated by Microsoft Defender XDR and other security platforms
  • Reviewing and investigating email threats including phishing, malware and suspicious attachments
  • Managing Microsoft 365 email quarantine and releasing legitimate messages where appropriate
  • Supporting the investigation and remediation of cyber security incidents
  • Assisting with vulnerability management and security improvement activities
  • Reviewing alerts from protection platforms
  • Monitoring endpoint security across Windows devices and servers
  • Assisting with the implementation and maintenance of Microsoft security controls
  • Supporting the administration of Microsoft Defender, Intune and Microsoft 365 security features
  • Assisting with reviewing and maintaining Attack Surface Reduction (ASR) policies
  • Supporting security awareness initiatives and user education
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and incident records
  • Escalating significant threats and incidents to senior engineers where required
  • Working closely with the wider IT team to improve the organisation's security posture

Whilst the primary focus of this role is cyber security, there may be occasions where support is provided to the wider IT team during periods of increased demand, project activity or planned absence cover

About you

We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in cyber security and a desire to build a long-term career in the field.

Essential Skills

  • Good understanding of Microsoft Windows operating systems
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft 365 and Active Directory
  • Awareness of common cyber security threats including phishing, ransomware and malware
  • Understanding of email security principles
  • Familiarity with security concepts such as MFA, least privilege and endpoint protection
  • Good troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical security skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Defender XDR
  • Experience reviewing security alerts or working within a SOC environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint
  • Understanding of Attack Surface Reduction (ASR) rules
  • Familiarity with Group Policy (GPO)
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune
  • Exposure to Microsoft Sentinel or other SIEM platforms
  • Knowledge of vulnerability management and remediation
  • Experience handling phishing investigations
