LEAD DEVSECOPS ENGINEER
- Lead DevSecOps Engineer opportunity supporting a major MOD digital transformation programme
- £640 per day via Umbrella | Initial contract until March 2027
- Remote working with occasional travel to Bristol and London
- MOD SC Clearance required
ABOUT THE CLIENT
Our client is a leading technology and consulting organisation delivering large-scale digital transformation programmes across the UK public sector. Working as a strategic delivery partner on a major MOD programme, they are driving the modernisation of critical digital services and platforms across secure cloud environments. Due to continued programme growth, they are seeking an experienced Lead DevSecOps Engineer to join the team.
THE LEAD DEVSECOPS ENGINEER ROLE
As a Lead DevSecOps Engineer, you will be responsible for establishing, governing and continuously improving DevSecOps practices across a portfolio of digital products and platforms. You will work closely with development, infrastructure, testing and security teams to embed secure-by-design principles, automate delivery pipelines and ensure compliance with stringent security standards.
You will
- Lead the implementation of DevSecOps ways of working across multiple delivery teams
- Design and optimise secure CI/CD and GitOps workflows
- Embed security scanning, vulnerability management and compliance controls into delivery pipelines
- Drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC) adoption and governance
- Implement observability, monitoring and logging solutions
- Support incident response, patching and compliance reporting activities
- Develop operational documentation, standards and runbooks
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to DevSecOps engineers across the programme
- Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, security and programme delivery functions
LEAD DEVSECOPS ENGINEER ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Proven experience in a Lead DevSecOps, Principal DevSecOps or Senior Platform Engineering role
- Strong hands-on experience with CI/CD and GitOps technologies including GitHub Actions, ArgoCD and Argo Rollouts
- Experience implementing security tooling including vulnerability scanning, secrets management and compliance controls
- Expertise with Docker, Kubernetes and container orchestration platforms
- Strong Terraform and Infrastructure as Code experience
- Experience with observability tools such as Grafana and Loki
- Strong Python and Bash scripting skills
- Cloud experience across AWS and cloud-native networking concepts
- Experience working within UK Government or GDS delivery environments
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and leadership skills
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- MOD digital estate experience
- Experience across Azure, AWS and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
- Experience delivering within Defence or National Security environments
- Knowledge of MOD security standards and compliance requirements
- Experience leading distributed and hybrid engineering teams
