Job Description

A career at Hitachi Rail will help create a legacy.

At Hitachi Rail, our people are helping to create safer, smarter and more sustainable transportation networks around the world. From major rail depots and manufacturing facilities to corporate offices and critical infrastructure, security plays a vital role in protecting our people, assets and operations.

We are looking for an experienced Physical Security Manager to lead physical security activities across our UK and Nordic locations.

This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a diverse asset portfolio, spanning rail depots, maintenance facilities, production sites, offices and operational locations. Working as part of our global Physical Security Competence Centre, you'll play a key role in safeguarding critical infrastructure while helping shape security best practice across the business.

Your New Role

As Physical Security Manager - UK & Nordics, you will be responsible for the management, assessment and continuous improvement of physical security measures across Hitachi Rail sites throughout the region.

The role is predominantly UK-focused, supporting sites from Scotland to Plymouth, whilst also maintaining oversight of our Nordic locations.

You'll work closely with site stakeholders, operational teams and the wider Security Competence Centre to identify risks, implement security improvements and ensure compliance with security standards and governance requirements.

This is a varied and highly visible role combining security risk management, site assessments, audits, investigations, bid support and stakeholder engagement.

This role can be based from one of our UK sites. Travel is a significant aspect of the position, with regular visits required to locations throughout the UK, from Scotland to Plymouth. Approximately 90% of the role will focus on UK operations, with occasional travel to Nordic locations, typically once or twice per year.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead physical security activities across Hitachi Rail assets throughout the UK and Nordics.
  • Conduct threat, vulnerability and risk assessments across a diverse portfolio of operational and corporate sites.
  • Develop, maintain and review site Security Plans, ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
  • Deliver security reviews, audits and compliance assessments to ensure alignment with company standards and industry requirements.
  • Investigate physical security incidents, identify root causes and implement corrective actions to reduce future risk.
  • Support business development and bid teams by providing security expertise for customer opportunities and tender submissions.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing innovative physical and digital security solutions.
  • Oversee security systems, access control arrangements and security service providers across multiple locations.
  • Build strong relationships with site leaders, operational teams, external partners and security providers.
  • Share best practice and contribute to the development of global physical security standards and governance.
  • Provide support during security incidents and emergency situations as required.

About You

You'll be a proactive security professional who enjoys balancing strategic planning with operational delivery. Comfortable working independently and travelling extensively, you'll be confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels and influencing positive security outcomes across a complex geographical portfolio.

You'll likely bring

  • Previous experience in a Physical Security, Asset Protection, Security Management or related role.
  • Strong experience conducting threat, vulnerability and risk assessments.
  • Experience developing and implementing security plans and mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of physical security systems, access control and security operations.
  • Experience undertaking compliance reviews, audits and security evaluations.
  • Strong incident investigation and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across operational, technical and leadership teams.
  • Experience managing third-party security suppliers and contracts.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly.

Desirable

  • Experience within rail, transportation, infrastructure, manufacturing or critical national infrastructure environments.
  • Previous military, law enforcement or corporate security background.
  • Understanding of how cyber threats can impact physical security environments.
  • Level 5 Diploma (or higher) in Security Management or equivalent qualification.
