Job Brief

KSS NW LTD are seeking a reliable and professional Retail Security Officer to join our team. As a Retail Security Officer, your primary responsibility will be ensuring the safety and security of the store, staff, and customers, while safeguarding high-value merchandise. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of loss prevention techniques, including the S.C.O.N.E approach (Selects, Conceals, Observed, No attempt to pay, Exits store) for managing shoplifting incidents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor the premises to prevent theft, damage, or other criminal activities
  • Conduct regular patrols within the store and surrounding areas, ensuring the safety and security of staff, customers, and property
  • Provide a visible security presence to deter criminal activities, such as shoplifting and fraud
  • Monitor CCTV and alarm systems, responding swiftly to any suspicious or unusual activity
  • Utilise the S.C.O.N.E method (Selects, Conceals, Observed, No attempt to pay, Exits store) to identify and manage suspected shoplifting incidents
  • Assist in the apprehension of offenders in compliance with legal regulations and store policies
  • Work closely with store management to identify potential security risks and develop proactive measures
  • Deliver excellent customer service, acting as a point of contact for customers and assisting them professionally
  • Respond swiftly and appropriately to emergencies or incidents in the store, including fire evacuations, medical situations, or customer disturbances
  • Liaise with local authorities, such as the police, when necessary
  • Complete detailed incident reports and maintain accurate logs of any security-related activity
  • Support the store in loss prevention efforts by minimising stock loss through proactive monitoring and reporting

Requirements

  • A valid SIA Security Guard Licence is essential; a Door Supervisor Licence would be advantageous
  • Previous experience in retail security
  • Strong knowledge of the S.C.O.N.E approach to shoplifting prevention and other loss prevention strategies
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging situations professionally
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to engage with both store staff and the public
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to notice suspicious behaviour or activities
  • Experience with CCTV monitoring and other security systems is beneficial
  • Professional, reliable, and punctual with a smart appearance
  • Able to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, to meet the needs of the retail environment
