Job Overview

Mitie has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Security Officer to join our team at Cabot Circus Shopping Centre in Bristol. This is a key role within a busy retail environment, supporting both front-facing security operations and the safe management of Back of House (BOH) areas across the centre.

The Role

As a Security Officer Compliance, you will play a vital part in maintaining a safe, compliant, and well-managed shopping centre. Working as part of the on-site security team, you will support day-to-day operations, conduct compliance checks, engage with retailers, and proactively identify and reduce risks.

Pay rate - £13.82

  • Conduct routine and ad-hoc BOH inspections across loading bays, service corridors, plant areas, refuse rooms, and shared BOH spaces
  • Monitor compliance with:

Fire safety requirements (escape routes, fire doors, storage)

  • Health & Safety standards
  • Waste management procedures
  • Deliveries and loading bay protocols
  • Identify hazards, unsafe practices, and non-compliance issues and take appropriate action
  • Act as the BOH point of contact for retailers and their contractors
  • Provide guidance and advice to retailers on BOH rules, safety expectations, and best practice
  • Challenge non-compliance professionally and constructively
  • Build positive working relationships to encourage voluntary compliance
  • Record all inspections, issues, and actions taken using agreed reporting systems
  • Escalate serious or repeat breaches to management
  • Support enforcement actions where necessary in line with centre policies
  • Operate as part of the security team, responding to incidents as required
  • Maintain a visible BOH presence to deter theft, misuse of areas, and unauthorised access
  • Support emergency responses including evacuations, fire alarms, and major incidents
  • Monitor contractor access and compliance with site rules
  • Ensure deliveries are conducted safely and within designated timeframes
  • Challenge unauthorised access or unsafe working practices

To be successful in this role you will need

  • Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence
  • Strong knowledge of BOH operations in retail or commercial environments
  • Confident communicator with the ability to challenge professionally
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety and fire safety principles
  • Ability to write clear reports and maintain accurate records
  • First Aid at Work
  • Fire Marshal / Fire Warden training
  • IOSH or equivalent H&S qualification
  • Experience in retail centre security or operations
