Security & Network Operations Lead

Newcastle upon Tyne | Hybrid – 3 days onsite, 2 days WFH

We’re supporting a well-established global organisation within the specialist insurance sector as they look to hire a Security & Network Operations Lead to join their Technology function.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership role responsible for developing and leading the organisation’s Security and Network Operations capability, with a particular focus on cyber security operations, incident response, threat detection and operational resilience.

You’ll manage a team of Security and Network Engineers and Technicians while helping shape the strategy and roadmap across security, networking and cyber operations.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading and developing a Security & Network Operations team
  • Defining and delivering the security and networking strategy and roadmap
  • Leading cyber incident triage, escalation, coordination and post-incident improvement
  • Improving alert handling, investigation processes and evidence capture
  • Strengthening operational resilience across phishing, malware, account compromise, data loss and security/network control failures
  • Reviewing technical, organisational and procedural controls against emerging threats
  • Managing security and networking platforms across areas including perimeter security, zero-trust controls, WAN, LAN and wireless networks
  • Working closely with internal teams and third-party providers across containment, remediation and incident communication
  • Ensuring security policies, processes and controls remain aligned with regulatory and industry requirements
  • Leading cross-functional security and infrastructure initiatives through to delivery

What we’re looking for

  • At least 5 years’ experience within Security and Networking
  • At least 4 years’ experience in a lead or management role
  • Strong experience managing security and networking platforms and associated technologies
  • Strong knowledge of cyber security principles, threat detection, vulnerability management and incident response
  • Practical experience supporting or leading cyber incident investigation, escalation, containment, remediation and post-incident reviews
  • Experience with security monitoring and response technologies such as SIEM, XDR, EDR, email security, identity protection, firewalls, network monitoring and/or managed SOC services
  • Experience managing and delivering projects across cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain cyber incidents and technical risk to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Relevant Cisco, Microsoft, cyber security, leadership or management certifications would be advantageous.
