We are seeking a proactive and resilient Security Team Leader to join our Estates & Security team. Reporting to the Security Manager, you will lead and support a team of Security Officers to deliver a high-quality, professional security service across the University campus.

You will play a key role in ensuring a safe, secure and welcoming environment for staff, students and visitors, while acting as a visible role model for standards, conduct and performance

As Security Team Leader, you will lead, motivate and support a team of Security Officers, ensuring the highest standards of professionalism, safety and customer service. You'll oversee day-to-day security operations, including patrols, building access, alarms and campus safety, while taking the lead during operational and critical incidents.

The role includes managing team performance, delivering training and briefings, ensuring compliance with health and safety and SIA requirements, maintaining operational equipment, and fostering a positive, inclusive team culture with a focus on staff development and wellbeing.

About You

  • Previous experience in leading teams, managing performance, supporting and developing staff
  • Experience in building positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent)
  • Valid full UK Manual driving license
  • Hold current SIA and CCTV (or willing to obtain one) during probation period
  • Effective organizational skills with ability to plan prioritize and delegate
  • Experience of managing incidents involving welfare, vulnerability or safeguarding
  • Live within a reasonable commutable distance to the campus based on a 12 hr shift

Additional Information

The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

  • The post holder will wear the approved University Security uniform
  • The role is based on a rotational shift pattern covering 365 days per year over 24 hours per day working 12 hour shifts.
  • Post holders are required to hold a valid full driving licence for manual and automatic vehicles
  • The post is non-sedentary and walking between areas on the vast campus is required.
  • Post holder will be required to be Security Industry Authority (SIA) Door Supervisor Licensed, First Aid at Work and Mental Health First Aid accredited and will be required to be SIA CCTV Operator licensed. (All relevant training will be provided).
  • The post is subject to a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service Check. On appointment to the role a check will be carried out by BSU and thereafter role holders will be required to provide a copy of their DBS Certificate as part of the SIA Licence renewal process.
