Scope of Role

The Rosyth Site (Yard) Manager will report directly to the Senior Yard Operations Manager and hold overall responsibility for the safe, efficient, and effective management of the Rosyth operation. This includes leading all yard activities, overseeing structural steel erection operations, and ensuring the seamless coordination of materials, plant, personnel, and resources across the entire site.

The role will provide strong operational leadership to the Yard and Site teams, ensuring the safe receipt, storage, handling, kitting, movement, loading, and dispatch of structural steel and associated materials, while supporting fabrication, steel erection, and customer delivery programmes. Working closely with Production, Planning, Logistics, Commercial, and Project teams, the Site Manager will ensure operational activities are fully aligned with programme requirements, maximising productivity, maintaining material availability, and delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget.

The Site Manager will be accountable for the overall performance of the Rosyth operation, driving high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance, quality, and operational excellence. The role will lead, develop, and motivate the site workforce, manage subcontractors and operational resources, and promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance productivity, reduce costs, improve efficiency, and deliver exceptional service to both internal and external customers.

Key**Responsibilities

Team Supervision and Operations

  • Lead and manage the Rosyth Yard Team, ensuring compliance with company procedures, quality standards, and safe systems of work.
  • Plan and coordinate daily yard operations to support fabrication, galvanising, and customer delivery requirements.
  • Manage labour and resources to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective yard operations while meeting production and delivery targets.
  • Monitor team performance and operational efficiency, implementing improvements where required.
  • Develop and support the Yard Team through coaching, training, and performance management.

Material Handling, Bundling and Kitting

  • Oversee all material handling, bundling, kitting, and preparation activities, ensuring they are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer specifications and project requirements.
  • Ensure robust processes are in place for the accurate identification, sorting, bundling, labelling, and preparation of structural steel and associated components prior to dispatch.
  • Ensure appropriate controls are maintained to verify that all bundles and kits are complete, secure, and accurately reflect Bills of Materials (BOMs), delivery documentation, and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate the efficient movement of materials between storage areas, fabrication facilities, loading zones, and steel erection activities to support production schedules and minimise delays or unnecessary handling.
  • Ensure material handling operations are planned and carried out using appropriate lifting equipment, safe systems of work, and in compliance with company health and safety procedures.
  • Oversee material storage, segregation, and yard layout to maximise space utilisation, improve accessibility, and support efficient operational workflows.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of material handling and kitting processes, identifying opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and enhance operational performance.

Loading and Dispatch

  • Ensure loading operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company procedures, with appropriate controls in place to prevent shortages, damage, or loading errors.
  • Coordinate with transport providers, Logistics, Production, and Project teams to ensure the effective scheduling of vehicle movements and the timely dispatch of materials.
  • Monitor daily dispatch performance, proactively identifying and managing delivery risks, delays, or material shortages, and ensuring these are communicated to the Senior Yard Operations Manager and relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure all delivery documentation is accurately completed, verified, and issued in accordance with company and customer requirements.
  • Oversee the efficient movement of materials from the yard to fabrication, site, and customer locations, ensuring operational priorities and project deadlines are achieved.
  • Drive continuous improvement in dispatch, transport coordination, and logistics processes to enhance service levels, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Material Control and Stock Management

  • Oversee the safe and efficient receipt, unloading, inspection, and verification of all incoming materials, ensuring compliance with quality standards and project requirements.
  • Ensure robust processes are in place for the accurate identification, recording, storage, and traceability of all materials within the yard.
  • Oversee stock control activities, including cycle counts and inventory audits, ensuring stock accuracy is maintained and discrepancies are investigated and resolved.
  • Monitor stock levels of structural steel, consumables, fixings, and ancillary items, ensuring appropriate controls are in place to maintain operational continuity.
  • Ensure material shortages, replenishment requirements, and inventory risks are identified and communicated to the relevant stakeholders to support uninterrupted operations.
  • Provide oversight of inventory management systems, including StruMIS, ensuring data integrity, material traceability, and adherence to company procedures.
  • Ensure materials are effectively controlled and made available to support fabrication, steel erection, and customer delivery programmes in line with operational priorities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in material control, stock management, and yard processes to enhance efficiency, minimise waste, and improve overall operational performance.

Production and Operational Coordination

  • Provide overall leadership and management of the Rosyth Yard operation, ensuring activities are effectively planned and aligned with fabrication, steel erection, and customer delivery programmes.
  • Oversee the coordination of Yard, Production, Planning, Logistics, and Project teams to ensure the timely availability and movement of materials in support of operational and project requirements.
  • Maintain strategic oversight of production schedules and project programmes, proactively identifying operational risks, resource constraints, and material flow issues, implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Ensure the efficient movement of structural steel and associated materials throughout the site, optimising workflows between fabrication, storage, loading, and site installation activities.
  • Direct and prioritise yard operations to respond effectively to changing business demands, production schedules, and customer delivery commitments.
  • Monitor operational performance against key business objectives, ensuring productivity, quality, safety, and customer service targets are consistently achieved.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration to optimise operational performance, improve resource utilisation, and ensure the successful delivery of projects.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing initiatives that enhance efficiency, streamline material flow, reduce waste, and support the long-term operational success of the Rosyth site.

Reporting and Continuous Improvement

  • Provide regular updates to the Senior Yard Operations Manager regarding delivery status, yard performance and operational issues.
  • Assist in the development and reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including On-Time-In-Full (OTIF), loading accuracy and stock accuracy.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement lean working practices where appropriate.
