Stock & Operations Manager – Hire Division

HERMEQ UK | Full-time

HERMEQ UK is looking for an organised, proactive and hands-on Hire & Stock Operations Manager to take ownership of our hire operations, stock control, purchasing and the efficient movement of hire equipment across our depot network.

This is a key role within the business, responsible for ensuring our hire stock is accurately controlled, maintained and available when our customers need it. You will work closely with our depot, transport, business support and finance teams, while managing a small team within the hire function.

Key Responsibilities

Team Management

  • Manage and support 2 Hire Yard Operatives and 1 Hire Yard Manager.
  • Provide clear direction, support and accountability across day-to-day hire yard activities.
  • Promote high standards of safety, organisation, housekeeping and operational efficiency.

Purchasing & Stock Procurement

  • Raise purchase orders to meet hire requirements.
  • Expedite outstanding stock orders to ensure equipment and materials arrive on time.
  • Monitor stock requirements and work closely with relevant teams to maintain appropriate stock levels.

Stock Control & Warehouse Management

  • Oversee the accurate receipting of stock into hire warehouses.
  • Manage cycle counts and ensure stock records remain accurate within the system.
  • Carry out regular spot checks and manually verify stock availability where required.
  • Work closely with depot and yard managers across the UK to maintain stock accuracy.
  • Coordinate quarterly physical stock audits across our warehouse network.
  • Travel will be required to Glasgow, Essex, Newport and Halifax depots every quarter.

On-Hire Operations

  • Coordinate hire deliveries with the Transport team and produce the necessary delivery documentation.
  • Determine the most appropriate delivery depot or warehouse for each hire.
  • Arrange and oversee Goods Out Reports, including product quality checks.
  • Ensure all relevant on-hire information and documentation is accurately uploaded to the system.

Off-Hire Operations

  • Coordinate collections with the Transport team and produce collection documentation.
  • Determine the appropriate return location for hire equipment.
  • Arrange and oversee Damage Reports following off-hire inspections.
  • Ensure damage information is passed to Business Support and Finance where recharges or billing are required.
  • Receipt returned stock accurately and ensure damaged equipment is moved to the appropriate Damages/Quarantine area.

Yard & Equipment Maintenance

  • Oversee forklift maintenance and ensure equipment remains safe and operational.
  • Maintain high standards of organisation, cleanliness and security across the hire yard.
  • Ensure hire stock is properly maintained, repaired and ready for customer use.
  • Oversee the identification and disposal of obsolete stock, including write-offs, damaged equipment and scrap removals.

About You

We are looking for someone who is highly organised, commercially aware and comfortable taking ownership of a busy hire and stock operation.

You will ideally have experience in

  • Hire, logistics, warehouse, stock control or depot operations.
  • Managing people and coordinating day-to-day operational activities.
  • Stock management and inventory systems.
  • Purchasing and supplier/order management.
  • On-hire and off-hire processes.
  • Managing equipment returns, damages and maintenance.
  • Working across multiple sites and coordinating with different departments.

You will need excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment. A hands-on approach and a willingness to travel between UK depots are essential.
