NS&I is one of the largest savings organisations in the UK with more than 24 million customers and over £218 billion invested. We are both a government department and an Executive Agency of the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Our origins can be traced back more than 150 years to 1861.

Role

To provide technical governance, operational oversight and assurance across a complex technology estate supporting critical financial and government-facing services.

Working across multiple business domains, including Retail, B2B Payments and Corporate Services, you will ensure technology services are fit for purpose, supplier-delivered solutions meet contractual obligations, and operational changes are assessed, governed and implemented safely.

This role is ideal for a highly technical individual with experience of complex data environments, cloud technologies, banking platforms and supplier management who can bridge the gap between architecture, operations, governance and business stakeholders.

As a Technical Operations Manager, your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Review, assess and validate change requests to ensure technical suitability, operational readiness and compliance.
  • Ensure suppliers deliver services in line with contractual commitments, service levels and business requirements.
  • Advise technical and operational teams on technology decisions impacting live services.
  • Monitor and assure the performance, stability and resilience of data, digital and customer-facing platforms.
  • Evaluate proposed solutions and ensure they support customer outcomes, regulatory requirements and business objectives.
  • Support governance activities relating to technology operations, security, risk and compliance.
  • Oversee end-to-end service impacts across applications, data platforms, databases, websites and mobile services.
  • Work closely with internal teams and third-party suppliers.
  • Provide technical assurance for cloud migration and transformation initiatives.
  • Ensure data flows, integrations and dependencies are understood and effectively managed across the technology landscape.
  • Support operational decision-making through technical expertise and stakeholder engagement.

Essential

  • Proven experience in a Technical Operations Manager, Technical Governance Manager or similar role.
  • Experience working within banking, financial services or highly regulated technology environments.
  • Strong knowledge of data flows, system integrations and information management across multiple platforms.
  • Practical understanding of cloud technologies, including AWS and Azure environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to challenge and influence technical decisions.
  • Ability to understand technical architecture and operational impacts across interconnected systems.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of security frameworks, operational risk management and compliance standards.
  • Experience supporting cloud transformation or migration programmes.
  • Familiarity with IT service management and governance frameworks.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
