Overview

Your investigative mindset and experience handling sensitive information under strict protocols align with the analytical and ethical demands of this role. However, the position requires deep technical expertise in areas like penetration testing, SIEM platforms, and cloud security tooling, which typically demands years of dedicated IT training and certification. While your policing background provides a strong foundation in incident response and forensic thinking, you would need substantial retraining to perform the hands-on technical duties effectively.

About this role

About Us

Intelliworx Managed IT is a fast-growing MSP with offices in Sydney, London, Chicago, and Auckland. We provide small, mid-tier enterprises and multinational clients with design, management, cybersecurity, and support for their information technology infrastructure. We are a cloud-first organisation, building our solutions around Microsoft's extensive cloud offering, including M365 and Azure.

We are currently looking to expand our team to drive new business growth.

About the Job

As a Cybersecurity Analyst, you will play a critical role in protecting Intelliworx and our clients from cyber threats. Working closely with our broader IT and security teams, you will identify and mitigate vulnerabilities, implement security solutions, and help safeguard our managed client environments from attack. This is a hands-on technical role: you will conduct security assessments, respond to incidents, perform forensic analysis, and collaborate with engineering teams to embed security across our services and infrastructure.

Key Technologies

  • Vulnerability scanning & penetration testing tools
  • Firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) & endpoint security controls
  • Microsoft 365 & Azure security tooling (Defender, Sentinel, Purview)
  • SIEM / security event monitoring platforms
  • Encryption & data protection technologies
  • Industry compliance frameworks (PCI-DSS, HIPAA, GDPR)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests across client networks, systems, and cloud environments, producing clear, risk-prioritised remediation reporting.
  • Design, configure, and maintain security technologies — including firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint controls, and encryption systems — across on-premises and cloud (M365/Azure) environments.
  • Monitor network activity and security event logs to detect threats and indicators of compromise, and respond to incidents following defined procedures.
  • Conduct forensic analysis of security incidents to determine cause and impact, and contribute to post-incident reviews and lessons-learned reporting.
  • Collaborate with IT professionals to implement security solutions, and communicate technical findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including client-facing reporting.
  • Support audit and compliance activities against standards such as PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and GDPR, and identify opportunities to improve detection and response processes.

The following skills are essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, or a related field
  • Proven experience as a Cybersecurity Analyst or in a similar hands-on security role
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, operating systems, and security technologies
  • Hands-on experience with security assessment tools, including vulnerability scanners and penetration testing tools
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and regulations such as PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and GDPR
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences

The following skills are desirable

  • Relevant certifications such as Security+, CEH, OSCP, GCIA, GCIH, CISSP, or CISM
  • Experience working in an MSP or MSSP environment
  • Exposure to Microsoft M365 and Azure security tooling, including Defender, Sentinel, and Purview

We are looking for people with the following qualities

  • Strong attention to detail when analysing data and identifying potential threats
  • An analytical, problem-solving mindset — able to interpret complex data sets to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies
  • Ethical and trustworthy, with the ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of integrity and professionalism
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
