Overview

Your policing background gives you strong skills in managing people, overseeing safety procedures, and responding calmly under pressure, all of which are directly relevant to a duty manager role in a leisure centre. You are used to taking charge of a shift, handling incidents, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols, which aligns well with the responsibilities of this position. However, the role requires specific lifeguard and first aid certifications that you would need to obtain, and the focus is more on facility operations and customer service than on the investigative or enforcement

About the Centre

The Boroondara Sports Complex (BSC) is a large sports centre, housing three outdoor pools include a heated 50 metre lap pool, a shaded program pool, and a dive pool with a five metre dive tower and one and three metre springboards. BSC is a beautiful centre, located conveniently within walking distance from public transport, with access to childcare and café at a discounted rate. All staff at The Y receive complimentary full membership to any YMCA within Victoria.

As a Duty Manager at Boroondara Sports Complex, you will have delegated authority of the Centre Manager, and will maintain a broad knowledge of centre programs and services whilst at the same time managing a range of centre functions whilst on shift which may include;

  • Maintaining a focus on ‘Big Picture’ issues Centre wide
  • Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of Centre’s Emergency Action Plan
  • Working autonomously as well as being an active leader

This is a casual position and the hourly rate is up to $42.35 + superannuation + Y benefits.

About you

As a Duty Manager you will act as positive role model in an effort to build strong people, strong families and strong communities, as well as identifying potential risk factors and taking steps to reduce those risks. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and all facility users.

Essential Qualifications

  • Aquatic Pool Lifeguard Certificate
  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Other Desired Qualifications or Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Legislation is an advantage
  • Previous experience in a similar facility in a supervisory role is desirable
