Hours: Weekdays and weekends, can include mornings and evenings.

Choices Health Club Derby is looking for a confident, reliable and motivated Duty Manager to support the day-to-day running of our busy health club.

This is a varied, hands-on role that involves leading the team, supporting our members and ensuring the club operates safely, smoothly and to a high standard throughout every shift.

Key responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the club while acting as the manager on duty.
  • Lead, support and motivate the team during each shift.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to members, guests and prospective members.
  • Respond to member enquiries, feedback and complaints professionally.
  • Complete regular checks of the gym, swimming pool, spa, changing rooms and other club areas.
  • Ensure high standards of cleanliness, presentation and customer care are maintained.
  • Carry out opening and closing procedures, including cashing up and security checks.
  • Monitor pool water testing and complete all required records.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, accidents and emergencies.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Support membership enquiries, club tours, sales and follow-ups.
  • Help the club achieve its membership, retention and service targets.
  • Assist with staff training, shift cover and the coordination of daily tasks.
  • Report maintenance issues and help ensure they are dealt with promptly.
  • Support the Club Manager and wider management team with the general operation of the club.

About you

We are looking for someone who

  • Has previous experience in a customer-facing, supervisory or team-leading role.
  • Is confident taking responsibility and making decisions.
  • Can lead by example and motivate others.
  • Is friendly, approachable and professional.
  • Has excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Is organised and able to prioritise in a busy environment.
  • Can remain calm and respond effectively to difficult situations or emergencies.
  • Is proactive, dependable and comfortable working independently.
  • Is willing to take a hands-on approach to all areas of the club.
  • Can work flexibly, including early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Previous experience within the health, fitness, leisure or hospitality industry would be beneficial. Personal trainer, pool plant, first aid or leisure-related qualifications would also be advantageous, although training can be provided.
