Head of Technology Risk & AI

Financial Services | Risk Leadership | Melbourne or Sydney

Australians considering a return home are encouraged to apply

Company Overview

Our client is a large, well-established Australian financial services organisation operating within the superannuation sector. Its Technology division plays a critical role in enabling the organisation’s strategy through secure, resilient and scalable digital, data and AI capabilities.

As the organisation continues to transform its technology environment and increase its adoption of AI and emerging technologies, it is seeking a senior risk leader to help shape how Technology Risk evolves alongside it.

For Australians currently working overseas and considering a return home, this is an opportunity to bring international experience into a significant Australian leadership role.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Technology & Data Officer, the Head of Technology Risk & AI will provide senior Line 1 risk leadership across a complex and fast-evolving Technology environment.

The role will be the key risk partner to Technology leadership, strengthening risk ownership across the function while helping the organisation safely adopt new technologies. The remit spans traditional Technology and Cyber Risk alongside Data, AI, GenAI and increasingly agentic technologies.

Key responsibilities will include

  • Provide senior Line 1 leadership across Technology, Cyber, Data, AI and operational risk.
  • Embed strong risk ownership across technology platforms, digital products, data assets, AI use cases and third-party services.
  • Help evolve the Technology Risk framework for GenAI and increasingly agentic systems, including identity and permissions, human oversight, monitoring, auditability and escalation.
  • Work closely with Cyber, Architecture, Data and AI teams to ensure risk controls are practical and embedded into technology delivery.
  • Lead Technology’s response to regulatory and prudential requirements, including CPS 230 and CPS 234.
  • Oversee technology risk assessments, KRIs, controls, incidents, breaches and remediation.
  • Maintain oversight of Technology regulatory obligations, controls mapping and evidence of compliance.
  • Lead Line 1 oversight of technology third-party risk and evolving supplier dependencies.
  • Provide clear, commercially relevant advice and reporting to executive, Board and governance forums on the organisation’s technology risk position.
  • Play a key role in Technology and AI governance forums, including Information Security and AI governance.

Skills & Experience

We are interested in established leaders who bring

  • Significant leadership experience across Technology Risk, Cyber Risk, Information Security or Technology Controls, ideally within banking, superannuation, insurance or another highly regulated environment.
  • Strong experience operating with CIOs, CTOs, CISOs, CROs and senior executive or Board stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of Technology and Cyber Risk and the ability to translate risk requirements into practical technology controls.
  • Strong knowledge of prudential and regulatory environments, including APRA standards such as CPS 230 and CPS 234.
  • Exposure to AI and GenAI risk and governance, with an understanding of how emerging and agentic technologies are changing traditional approaches to Technology Risk.
  • Experience across technology controls, third-party risk, incident management, regulatory change and control effectiveness.
  • An ability to operate comfortably between Technology and Risk — enabling innovation while providing credible challenge.
  • Familiarity with relevant AI governance approaches and evolving Australian regulatory expectations.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or CRISC, CISM or CISSP will be highly regarded.

Returning to Australia?

If you are an Australian currently working in Singapore, Hong Kong, London, New York, the Middle East or another global financial services or technology hub and considering returning home, we would particularly welcome a conversation.

International experience is highly regarded. We are interested in leaders who have worked in sophisticated global Technology, Cyber and Risk environments and can bring that perspective to an Australian organisation navigating the next evolution of Technology Risk.

Candidates will need to hold appropriate Australian working rights.

How to Apply

If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, or you would simply like a confidential conversation about the role and returning to the Australian market, please forward your resume using the ‘Apply Now’ button or contact Nandita Nandakumar at Profusion Group for a confidential discussion.
