About this role

Shape the future of IT operations across a growing international business.

Scutum is looking for an experienced IT Operations Manager to lead and coordinate day-to-day IT services across our UK and Ireland businesses. Reporting directly to the Group Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), this role combines operational oversight, technical expertise, supplier management, and continuous improvement to ensure reliable, secure, and effective IT services across multiple locations.

You'll work closely with internal stakeholders, regional teams, specialist providers, and senior leadership to support business-critical operations, improve service delivery, strengthen cyber security controls, and contribute to strategic technology initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their IT leadership career while remaining closely connected to operational delivery and business outcomes.

We're looking for a practical, organised, and service-focused professional who enjoys solving problems, building strong relationships, and driving improvements that make a real difference to users and the wider business.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily IT operations, service requests, incidents, escalations, and support activities across UK and Ireland locations.
  • Provide hands-on support where required to ensure service continuity and effective incident resolution.
  • Support and guide internal IT teams and third-party service providers, helping to drive service performance and knowledge sharing.
  • Administer and continually improve Microsoft 365 services, including Teams, SharePoint, Exchange Online, Intune, and identity and access management processes.
  • Manage IT assets, software licensing, device inventories, joiner, mover and leaver processes, procurement activities, and secure asset disposal.
  • Coordinate infrastructure, network, cloud, backup, and disaster recovery activities alongside technical specialists.
  • Work closely with cyber security stakeholders to support security controls, patching, endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, and security awareness initiatives.
  • Support the delivery of technology projects, platform standardisation, Microsoft 365 improvements, business system changes, and acquisition integrations.
  • Coordinate support for business-critical operational environments and technology platforms.
  • Manage supplier relationships, service reviews, contract renewals, purchasing activities, and service escalations.
  • Monitor expenditure and help identify opportunities to improve efficiency and control costs.
  • Produce regular service reports covering incidents, performance, risks, asset compliance, project delivery, and improvement actions.
  • Build strong relationships with regional teams, communicating changes and supporting users across the business.
  • Ensure compliance with information security, data protection, health and safety, and quality management requirements.

Experience

  • Experience within IT operations, IT service delivery, systems administration, or technical support environments.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and the wider Microsoft technology ecosystem.
  • Experience supporting Windows endpoints, user administration, device management, and core networking fundamentals.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities, projects, suppliers, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving and incident management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
  • Experience coordinating third-party suppliers and managed service providers.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and operational records.
  • Experience supporting or delivering IT projects and business technology improvements.
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout the UK and Ireland.

Desirable

  • Degree in IT, Computing, Business Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Microsoft, CompTIA, ITIL, PRINCE2, Agile, or similar professional qualifications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune, Azure, SharePoint, Dynamics 365, Business Central, ERP, CRM, or reporting platforms.
  • Exposure to AI technologies, business systems integration, or software development fundamentals.
  • Experience managing supplier performance, IT budgets, procurement, and business change activities.
  • Understanding of cyber security frameworks, Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001, GDPR, backup and recovery principles.
  • Experience working within a multi-site organisation.
  • Experience supporting security technology, fire and security businesses, monitoring centres, or operationally critical environments.

Skills, Abilities & Personal Qualities

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple workstreams effectively.
  • A structured and methodical approach to problem solving and operational management.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Practical, hands-on approach with a willingness to support operational issues when required.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Calm and professional under pressure, particularly when managing incidents and service disruptions.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborative leadership style with an interest in developing colleagues and supporting team success.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, service excellence, and professional development.
