Overview

Your operational leadership and site management experience from policing—running a shift, managing people, and ensuring safety protocols—transfers to overseeing a busy gymnastics facility. You are used to taking responsibility for a physical environment, handling safeguarding and health and safety, and dealing confidently with the public, which are core parts of this role. However, the job requires specific gymnastics coaching expertise and qualifications, which you would need to acquire, making it a moderate fit rather than a direct transition.

About this role

Site Manager & Lead Coach – GymnasticsOverview

Join our dynamic team as a Site Manager & Lead Coach in Sheffield, taking responsibility for the smooth running of our gymnastics site while leading high-quality coaching sessions across our evening and weekend programme.

This is a key leadership role combining hands-on gymnastics coaching, team management, site operations and athlete development. You’ll be responsible for creating a safe, positive and energetic environment where gymnasts of all ages and abilities can develop their skills, build confidence and enjoy their gymnastics.

As Site Manager & Lead Coach, you will lead by example, supporting and developing the coaching team while ensuring that sessions are well planned, consistently delivered and aligned with our coaching standards. You’ll also take ownership of the day-to-day running of the site during your shifts, ensuring the facility, equipment, staff and athletes are all managed effectively.

Duties

  • Lead and deliver high-quality gymnastics coaching sessions across a range of ages and abilities
  • Plan and deliver structured, engaging sessions that support athletes’ technical development and progression
  • Lead by example and maintain excellent coaching standards across the site
  • Support, supervise and motivate the coaching team
  • Provide guidance, feedback and ongoing support to coaches to help develop their skills and confidence
  • Allocate coaches effectively across classes and ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained
  • Monitor the quality and consistency of coaching across all sessions
  • Ensure athletes receive appropriate instruction, encouragement and constructive feedback
  • Monitor athlete progress and work with coaches to identify development opportunities
  • Maintain a safe, positive and inclusive environment for athletes, coaches and families
  • Take responsibility for site health and safety, safeguarding and safe working practices
  • Ensure gymnastics equipment is used correctly, safely maintained and stored appropriately
  • Complete regular checks of equipment and facilities and report or escalate any issues
  • Oversee the set-up and pack-down of the gym and ensure the site is left clean, organised and ready for use
  • Act as a senior point of contact for parents and carers during sessions
  • Deal professionally and confidently with day-to-day questions, concerns and feedback
  • Support the smooth running of classes, registers, timetables and general site administration
  • Help organise competitions, displays, showcases, events and other gymnastics activities
  • Communicate effectively with senior management regarding staffing, athletes, equipment, facilities and operational matters
  • Identify ways to improve the customer experience, coaching programme and overall site performance
  • Take ownership of issues as they arise and use initiative to find practical solutions

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience coaching gymnastics, ideally across multiple age groups and ability levels
  • Strong knowledge of gymnastics techniques, coaching methods, athlete development and safe practice
  • Previous experience leading a coaching team or taking responsibility for a gymnastics programme, class or facility
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, support and develop other coaches
  • Excellent communication skills with athletes, parents, carers, coaches and management
  • Confident managing a busy environment and making decisions independently
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities at once
  • Enthusiastic, energetic and positive approach to coaching and leadership
  • Ability to deliver engaging sessions while maintaining high standards of discipline, safety and professionalism
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and health & safety within a children's sports environment
  • Ability to assess athletes' individual needs and adapt coaching approaches accordingly
  • Reliable, proactive and able to take ownership of the site during evening and weekend shifts
  • Professional approach with a strong focus on customer service and creating a positive experience for families
  • Passion for gymnastics and a genuine commitment to helping athletes and coaches reach their potential

The Role

You’ll be an important part of the team, responsible not only for delivering great gymnastics but also for ensuring that the people, programme and site operate to a consistently high standard.

We’re looking for someone who is confident taking charge, enjoys developing other coaches and takes pride in creating a safe, professional and enjoyable environment for athletes and families.

If you’re an experienced gymnastics coach with strong leadership skills, excellent organisation and a passion for developing both athletes and coaches, we’d love to hear from you.
