Overview

Your operational command and people management experience directly applies to running a small business's day-to-day operations.

About this role

Job Summary

On behalf of our client we are seeking a hands on dynamic and energetic Operations Manager for our small, but growing, theatre and studio installations and service company.

This is a newly created role who will take full ownership of everything operational except for quoting and delivery of installations — those stay with the Director and the technical team. In practice, that means running the business: finance, people, suppliers, compliance, office and systems.

Twelve months in, success looks like robust financial processes and reporting in place, HR and people processes formalised, supplier relationships proactively managed, and the Director who is spending their time on growth and delivery rather than admin.

What you will do

  • Own day-to-day financial management — bookkeeping, invoicing, cash flow and budgeting, and liaison with our accountant
  • Lead HR and people matters — recruitment support, onboarding, contracts, absence and performance, and Operations staff welfare
  • Manage the office and facilities — premises, equipment, IT and Operations administration
  • Oversee supplier and vendor relationships — negotiating terms, managing accounts, and ensuring reliable supply
  • Take ownership of health & safety and compliance across the business — policies, insurance, certifications, and data protection
  • Support marketing and wider business administration, and improve systems and processes as the company grows
  • Act as the Director's right hand, reporting directly to them with regular updates on business performance

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Experience running or managing the day-to-day operations of a small company — any industry; theatre or AV experience is not required
  • Demonstrated success in operations management with a can do attitude, creating and implementing solutions that enhance and protect the business
  • A strong grounding in business finance, bookkeeping and all Office suite applications
  • Experience managing HR and people processes in a small-team environment
  • Comfortable owning supplier relationships and office/facilities management
  • Confident handling compliance and health & safety requirements for a small business
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Fostering a collaborative work environment, with resilience and adaptability
  • Able to be office-based near Radlett, Hertfordshire in a low key, informal, dog friendly office
  • Able to drive and hold an active licence, ad hoc business driving and to access the office location, parking available on site
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Hours: 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday

Preferred

  • Experience in a hands-on, owner-led small business rather than a large corporate environment
  • Numerate and having financial acumen, familiarity with accounting software, ideally Xero
  • Marketing and/or wider business administration experience
  • A relevant business or management qualification
  • Prior administrative experience with proficiency in organisational tools and time management techniques

Compensation & Benefits

£40,000–£47,750, depending on experience.
