Who are we looking for?

The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, residents, contractors, and visitors across the UCL East Campus. This role combines front-of-house customer service duties with essential security functions including safeguarding, access control, accommodation support, and proactive patrols. Officers must uphold UCL values, demonstrate high professional standards, and ensure compliance with site procedures, including the Gallagher Access Control and Alarm Management System.

What you will need

  • Excellent communication skills and a strong customer focus.
  • A valid SIA Door Supervisor License - essential
  • Experience working in university campuses or student accomodation
  • Practical knowledge of Gallagher Access Control System (or similar)
  • Able to achieve vetting to BS7858 Standards

What are you going to do

  • Provide a professional, friendly, and customer-focused presence at reception points and security desks
  • Assist students, visitors, and contractors with wayfinding, enquiries, and building access procedures
  • Escalate safeguarding matters to the Supervisor, UCL staff, or emergency services as required
  • Conduct welfare checks when requested by Accommodation Services or Security Control
  • Support procedures for student lock-outs, lost keys/cards, emergency room access, and
  • incident reporting within accommodation blocks
  • Badge creation and card activation/deactivation
  • Door schedule monitoring
  • Responding to door alarms, forced entry alarms, and technical alerts
  • Monitoring intruder and fire panel integrations
  • Conduct scheduled internal and external patrols of the site
  • Identify hazards, maintenance issues, or suspicious activity and escalate appropriately
  • Identify and report suspicious behaviour in line with SCaN and CT guidance
  • Assist during campus events, tours, open days, and emergency situations
  • Assist with Major Incident Procedures, lockdown operations, and first aid situations
  • Work closely with the Control Room, Estates, and Emergency Services as required
  • Maintain confidentiality and data protection compliance at all times (GDPR)
