About this role

Summary of role

To manage the day-to-day operational requirements in line with customer and contractual expectations by leading and managing the site security team. This includes day to day responsibility of operating and managing Security Control Room, Fire Control Room, Post Room & Loading Bay, Front of House, Alarm Responses, etc.

To be the initial management contact on operational security matters, ensuring a consistent quality service delivery and prompt responses to all incidents.

As a DSM you will play an active role in incident response and take on the role of Incident Manager for any major incidents on site.

Maintaining a safe and secure environment for visitors, staff and contractors is expected.

Manage welfare, development, and performance of assigned and immediate Bidvest Noonan team members.

Main responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the Security shift team member’s duties, ensuring they are compliant and conversant with agreed procedures, taking responsibility of the professional conduct, development/succession planning and performance management of the team.
  • Ensure that site KPIs are managed as per Client and Bidvest Noonan expectations.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures set up by Bidvest Noonan and WCP are adhered across the contract.
  • To act as key contact for all daily operational security matters across the contract.
  • To ensure that security teams and fellow DSMs are all briefed on events or changes in procedures that have been implemented or are due to be introduced.
  • Investigate & escalate all complains, putting in place corrective measures to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Be the key operator in SCR, managing CCTV operations and all the functions of the FCR.
  • Participate in the resolution of all site-based incidents. The DSM takes on the function as an Incident Manager during incidents. DSMs takes part in first aid response. Key point of contact during evacuation and invocation events.
  • Ensure the Health & Safety of the staff and visitors across the premises.
  • Ensure that Security Team carry out the set number of patrols, meeting frequency, accuracy, and reporting targets.
  • To manage the deployment of Security Team by way of planning, co-ordination, allocation, and supervision via compiling of rosters to cover duties, holidays, and absence as well as daily rotation of the team, shifting recourses to where they are required.
  • To raise the profile of Security ensuring that customers are well informed at all times of procedures and processes.
  • To undertake any other tasks as identified by the Account Director, Head of Security, or Client being for the good and benefit of the service to the customer.
  • Any other duties deemed to be appropriate or necessary for the post.
  • To be the Lead in Security Control and Fire Control rooms.
  • To effectively monitor CCTV for the prevention of crime, loss, or theft of property and to ensure the Health & Safety of staff and visitors.
  • Work in partnership with service partners and customer’s representatives, ensuring all aspects of site Security and Health & Safety requirement are effectively managed.
  • To manage project works (adhoc as well as scheduled) as it requested by the Client or the Head of Security.
  • Assist the Head of Security in reviewing, devising, and compiling standard operating procedures and scenario tests.
  • Escalate any issues that may impact business as usual for the client.
  • To monitor contractor’s adherence to safety thereby reducing the risk of incidents.
  • To investigate matters of concern reported by members of staff.
  • To contribute toward the maintenance of clean and welcoming environment for visitors.

Operating in line with latest Data Protection and CCTV COP as set out by British Standards.

  • Security Control Room/Fire Control Room
  • The DSM is based in the SCR and operates SCR functions along with the CCTV operators.
  • The DSM to manage all FCR functions including responding to alert/alarms, emails, and incidents.
  • The DSM monitor and respond to all site alarms. A response will include investigation of alarm triggers by means of CCTV playback, Access Control reports, sending staff to investigate, or other means available. Systems being monitored which include:
  • Intruder alarms, Fire alarms, Safe Refuge alarms, Disabled Toilet alarms, Building Management alarms, Leak detection, Temperature alerts, Security alert emails, Panic alarms, and Access control.
  • The DSM main duties for SCR/FCR includes but not limited to:
  • Recording daily events in appropriate logs.
  • Completing daily and weekly checks
  • Administrating Lost & Found
  • Safekeeping, auditing and issuing keys as well as managing key lists.
  • Reactively monitor CCTV
  • Reactively monitor access control systems
  • Reactively monitor fire and intruder alarms
  • Managing faults from investigating, reporting, through to resolution.
  • Investigate alarm triggers, using CCTV, Access Control reports, and any other systems/processes available to determine the cause.
  • Respond to Helpdesk service requests and complete/close service tickets requests.
  • Using radios, telephones, and intercoms in polite and authoritive manner.

Train, give advice/information to security team members whilst they are on post if they require it. This will require being conversant with SOPs, Risk assessments and Assignment Instructions.

  • Staff Management
  • Line managing and developing your designated Bidvest Noonan Security team and team on duty.
  • Line management includes covering all Bidvest Noonan staff management functions:
  • Welfare: Employee Relation functions such as ensuring that each post is visited at least once per shift, employee concerns are listened to and taken into consideration, staff work in safe working conditions acting upon and reporting any risks and incidents, Site Inductions, Risk Assessments, Health & Safety files and Toolbox talks are talked through with each employee, and they are conversant with it.
  • Developmental: Training functions such ensuring they are fully trained on their duties & tasks, conversant with their assignment within Assignment Instructions, as well as enhancing their security skills and coaching the team where required. Monthly scenario tests and encouraging innovation.
  • Performance management: Human Recourse functions including following the Bidvest Noonan discipline process, addressing short comings appropriately, checking up on time keeping.
  • Ensure all staff carry out their duties in accordance with procedures and policies.
  • Establish and manage security team that is well turned out, motivated, well-informed, focused, and clear about its roles, objectives and responsibilities.
  • Maintain and follow fair and consistent disciplinary procedures, with appropriate actions as necessary.
  • Ensure all employees are motivated and trained to the required standard and subject to regular effective performance monitoring.
  • Take full responsibility for the effective & meaningful actioning of the SWDP process in all its stages, in respect to team personnel & alert your Line Manager to both individual issues and site trends.
  • To ensure that all new starters have been issued with the correct items of uniform and equipment, that they are formally introduced to their site and that all induction training and documentation has been completed prior to them commencing duty.
  • Play proactive part in the control of staff turnover.
  • Effectively manage and reduce absence, including the absence database and acting as point of call for sickness/absenteeism reporting.
  • Proactively mentor the SCR/FCR operators and ensure their responsibilities are being met.
  • To ensure that your SIA license is on display at all times while at work.

Any additional reasonable duties requested by operational management.
