About this role

Job Description

Senior Financial Crime Compliance Manager

London (Oxford Circus) | Hybrid: 2 days per week | Reports to: MLRO

ABOUT MONUMENT

We're building something genuinely rare: a financial brand designed for the mass affluent, the professionals, entrepreneurs and ambitious savers that traditional banks have systematically underserved for decades.

We exist to make managing wealth simpler, smarter and more human, treating every client's wealth with the same care as if it were our own.

We have over £7 billion in client deposits, a fresh funding round and a place on the Future Fifty, the UK's top pre-IPO companies. The momentum is real.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Monument is scaling. New products, new markets and an IPO trajectory mean the financial crime framework that got us here needs to be the framework that stands up to listed-company scrutiny. This role sits at the centre of that work.

As Senior Financial Crime Compliance Manager, you will operate as the second line of defence, providing independent oversight and challenge of Monument's financial crime controls across the full business. You will assess risk in new propositions before they launch, support the Bank's international expansion from a financial crime perspective, and help the MLRO build a control environment that is genuinely IPO-ready.

This is not a process-management role. It requires sound judgement, genuine independence and the confidence to challenge upwards. If you have built 2LoD financial crime capability in a UK regulated bank and want to do it again in one of the UK's most ambitious pre-IPO growth stories, this is the role.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Assess the financial crime risk of new products, propositions and new markets before launch, feeding directly into new product approval forums and ensuring controls are proportionate and embedded from the outset rather than remediated later.
  • Support Monument's international expansion by evaluating jurisdictional financial crime risk, adapting the Bank's framework for cross-border exposure and acting as the financial crime point of contact for the FCA and relevant international regulators.
  • Support the MLRO in raising Monument's financial crime framework, systems and MI to listed-company standard, and bring financial crime judgement to due diligence on acquisitions, partnerships and strategic initiatives ahead of IPO.
  • Provide independent oversight and challenge of the first line's design and operation of financial crime and fraud controls, including thematic reviews and the Business-Wide Risk Assessment.
  • Own and maintain the Bank's financial crime and fraud policy and risk assessment framework, in line with MLR 2017, the FCA Financial Crime Guide, JMLSG Guidance and other applicable legislation.
  • Maintain the financial crime risk register, escalating material risks and control failures to the MLRO and relevant committees.
  • Provide cover for the MLRO's operational responsibilities during periods of absence, exercising sound, independent judgement on SARs and other time-critical decisions with full awareness of the personal accountability involved.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

Shape the financial crime framework of a pre-IPO challenger bank at one of its most consequential stages. Work directly with the MLRO, Board and Executive Committee on the decisions that matter. Operate with genuine independence in a business that respects it. Be part of a Bank that is building something the UK financial services market does not yet have.

OUR VALUES

At Monument, our values shape how we make decisions, how we treat each other when things get hard, and how we show up for clients who expect more than standard banking.

We set ambitious goals and hold ourselves to them, not because it looks good, but because our clients' outcomes depend on it. When something is not working, we say so early, learn from it, and move. We do not wait for perfect conditions, and we do not protect egos over progress.

We work as a genuine team, which means real collaboration, honest conversations when we disagree, and shared accountability when things go wrong. We know better decisions come from different perspectives, so we actively value the range of experiences and backgrounds our people bring.

We are always asking whether there is a smarter way to do what we do, not for the sake of change, but because standing still is not an option in the market we are in.

BENEFITS

  • 28 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays
  • Performance related bonus structure
  • Equity after probation
  • Enhanced pension (9% employer contribution + 1% match when you contribute a minimum of 1%)
  • Private health insurance with family cover
