As our Senior Tax Governance and Operations Manager, you will play a key strategic role in strengthening tax governance, managing complex tax matters and supporting the effective operation of the Hostplus Superannuation Fund and Hostplus Pooled Superannuation Trust. Working across Investment Operations and Finance, you will provide trusted tax expertise, enhance controls and reporting, and help ensure our tax obligations are managed accurately and effectively.
The opportunity
This is a broad and influential role where you will take ownership of day-to-day tax management while partnering with senior internal stakeholders, our fund administrator, custodian, external tax adviser and regulatory bodies.
- Manage the relationship with our external tax adviser and serve as a key contact for tax matters across the Investment Strategy, Investment Operations and Finance teams.
- Identify and advise on emerging tax issues and legislative changes affecting the Fund and the Hostplus Pooled Superannuation Trust.
- Implement and oversee tax governance, control frameworks and third-party data controls.
- Act as the subject matter expert for FATCA and CRS monitoring and reporting.
- Oversee BAS reporting, annual tax true-ups, US and Australian tax returns, tax provisions and effective tax and franking credit accrual rates.
- Review controlled foreign company calculations and undertake tax reviews and risk assessments for Australian and foreign investment vehicles.
- Ensure complex corporate actions and material transactions are supported by appropriate tax risk assessments and accurate processing.
- Drive improvements in the quality of tax reporting produced by our fund administrator.
- Lead interactions and reviews with the ATO, including designing and implementing responses to review findings.
About you
You are an accomplished tax professional with extensive experience across corporate tax, GST, FBT, foreign income tax offsets, imputation credits and statutory tax lodgements. Ideally, you will have developed your expertise within a superannuation fund, financial services environment or Big Four accounting firm.
- Demonstrated experience managing ATO relationships and assurance reviews.
- Strong experience designing and implementing tax governance controls, including third-party data governance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels.
- Strong leadership capability and the confidence to work autonomously, take responsibility and provide sound professional judgement.
- The ability to lead and embed change in collaboration with internal teams and external service providers.
- A relevant degree in law, commerce, accounting or a related discipline.
- CA, CPA, Graduate Diploma in Tax or another relevant professional qualification.
- Relevant experience within the superannuation industry.
