Ex-Police Compliance & Regulatory Salaries in the UK
Reviewed July 2026
Compliance pays for exactly what policing drilled into you: operating inside a statutory framework, evidencing decisions, and holding lines under pressure. Regulated firms — finance above all — hire ex-officers into AML, financial-crime compliance, investigations and safeguarding-governance roles.
Entry is usually one certificate away: experience does the persuading, but the ICA badge gets you past HR filters.
What the roles pay
| Role | Typical range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Compliance analyst | £32,000–£42,000 | |
| Compliance / AML officer | £40,000–£55,000 | Typical entry with ICA certificate |
| Compliance manager | £55,000–£80,000 | |
| Senior manager / head of compliance | £80,000–£120,000+ | Financial services, London |

What moves the number
- Financial services out-pays every other compliance sector; within it, markets and fintech pay most.
- ICA Diploma (or ACAMS) is the standard gate to officer-and-above grades.
- Investigation-flavoured compliance (internal investigations, whistleblowing casework) pays a premium over policy work — and suits ex-police best.
- SM&CR and FCA-facing experience builds fastest in post; it compounds into the £80k+ grades.
- London dominates senior compliance pay; regional hubs (Leeds, Edinburgh, Manchester) run 10–20% under.
Coming from policing
Economic-crime and public-protection backgrounds transfer most directly; any detective background covers the investigation-side roles. See the linked guides for the certificate order that gets each route interview-ready.
