About this role

We are recruiting for a newly created position; Compliance Manager for one of our leading clients based in Leeds. You will take ownership of the company's compliance, governance and regulatory framework. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the business operates in line with all relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and industry best practice, while promoting a culture of compliance and continuous improvement across the organisation.

Working closely with the senior leadership team, you will lead the development, implementation and monitoring of compliance policies and procedures, ensuring the organisation remains compliant with evolving legislation and regulatory standards. This position offers the opportunity to influence business-wide governance, minimise legal and operational risk, and support the organisation's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain company policies and procedures in line with current legislation and regulatory requirements, presenting recommendations to the senior leadership team.
  • Plan and deliver internal compliance audits covering areas including Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), Right to Work, Modern Slavery, GDPR, ethical practices and wider regulatory obligations.
  • Take overall responsibility for coordinating and managing external audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Lead all GDPR and data protection activities, including Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), compliance training, non-conformance investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee document control processes, ensuring policies, procedures and business documentation are accurately version controlled and regularly reviewed.
  • Maintain supplier compliance records, agency agreements and approved supplier documentation.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate significant experience in a Compliance, Governance or Risk & Compliance management role, together with a comprehensive understanding of UK regulatory requirements and corporate governance.

  • Proven experience developing, implementing and continuously improving compliance policies, procedures and governance frameworks.
  • Extensive knowledge of UK compliance legislation, regulatory requirements and best practice.
  • Strong understanding of GDPR, the UK Data Protection Act, ICO guidance and wider data governance principles.
  • Experience managing Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), data protection compliance and associated training programmes.
  • Demonstrable experience leading internal and external audits, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards, quality management systems and Business Continuity Planning.
  • Experience preparing compliance documentation for tenders, audits, accreditations and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence and advise senior leadership.
