About this role

Make your mark at BRE!

BRE is a world-leading global organisation for innovation, science and data in the built environment. For over 100 years, we have supported governments, businesses and industry with pioneering research, testing and expertise. We are focused on growth, scale and expanding our global impact with products, services, standards and qualifications that address the challenges of a changing world. Driven by our purpose of helping everyone, in every building, everywhere, we are creating a safer, more sustainable built environment for people and planet.

Help keep BRE safe, compliant and operating at its best

Are you an organised and proactive facilities, estates or compliance professional looking for a role where you can make a real impact? At BRE, you'll play a key role in helping us maintain a safe, compliant and well-managed estate, ensuring our buildings, infrastructure and services support the work we do every day.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your expertise across estates operations, compliance management and contractor oversight while working with a wide range of stakeholders across our Watford site.

As Estates Maintenance and Compliance Officer, you will support the Estates Senior Operations (FM) Manager in the day-to-day operation of the BRE estate. You will be responsible for helping to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance requirements are met, maintaining accurate compliance records, coordinating maintenance activities and managing a range of service providers and contractors.

Working across both hard and soft facilities management services, you'll play an important role in ensuring our buildings, grounds and infrastructure remain safe, compliant, efficient and fit for purpose. You'll work closely with Estates colleagues, contractors, suppliers, SHE teams and tenants to deliver a high standard of service and support continuous improvement across the estate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements across the estate.
  • Manage and maintain compliance records, asset registers, inspection schedules, certificates and related documentation.
  • Coordinate planned maintenance activities, statutory inspections and remedial works.
  • Manage designated service contracts and monitor contractor performance against agreed standards and KPIs.
  • Support contractor control processes, including permits to work, inductions and documentation reviews.
  • Identify, escalate and help resolve compliance, maintenance and operational risks.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, contractors and suppliers to ensure work is delivered safely and effectively.
  • Support audits, compliance reporting and preparation for external inspections.
  • Assist with purchase orders, invoice reviews and value-for-money assessments.
  • Contribute to improvements in estates processes, systems and ways of working.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with experience in an estates, facilities management, property, construction or engineering environment who enjoys combining practical problem-solving with strong organisation and attention to detail.

You'll bring

  • Experience supporting and managing estates, facilities management or compliance-related activities.
  • A good understanding of statutory and regulatory compliance requirements relating to buildings and estate operations.
  • Knowledge of key compliance areas such as fire safety, asbestos, legionella, electrical safety, gas safety, lifting equipment and related inspection regimes.
  • Experience working with contractors, suppliers or service providers and monitoring performance against agreed standards.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple priorities.
  • The confidence to identify risks, make sound judgements and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

It would be advantageous if you also have

  • A qualification in facilities management, construction, engineering, property or a related discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body, or a willingness to work towards professional membership.
  • Experience supporting audits, compliance reporting or continuous improvement initiatives.
