Overview

Your operational risk management and contingency planning experience from policing maps well to the risk assessment and mitigation frameworks this role requires. The role's focus on governance, compliance monitoring, and developing corrective action plans aligns with your background in managing complex incidents and ensuring procedural adherence. However, the deep pension-specific knowledge and financial regulatory expertise would require significant retraining, so this is a moderate rather than strong fit.

About this role

DESCRIPTION

Join Amazon's Global Retirement & Investments team in London, UK, where you'll manage retirement plans and risk oversight across the UK, Ireland, and broader international markets. This hybrid role blends hands-on plan management with strategic risk work, partnering with cross-functional teams across legal, tax, benefits, payroll, and technology to ensure our retirement programs are well-governed, compliant, and delivering strong outcomes for employees.

Key job responsibilities

  • Support the management and governance of UK and Ireland pension schemes, including trustee/governance committee coordination, member communications, and regulatory filings
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies and frameworks that identify, assess, and mitigate pension-related risks across international retirement plans
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify operational, financial, regulatory, and reputational risks, ensuring operations meet risk tolerance thresholds
  • Monitor auto-enrolment compliance (UK and Ireland) and ongoing adherence to TPR and Pensions Authority requirements
  • Create and execute corrective action plans to resolve vulnerabilities and address emerging risk scenarios, including proactive identification of compliance gaps and fiduciary threats
  • Support vendor management activities including advisor reviews, fee benchmarking, and service level monitoring
  • Research risk scenarios and develop automated dashboards using data analytics and AI tools to monitor country-specific risk inventories, track regulatory changes, and support data-driven decision-making
  • Coordinate with investment advisors and trustees on scheme performance monitoring and fund reviews
  • Partner with payroll, HR, and benefits teams to ensure accurate contribution processing and resolve member queries or escalations
  • Stay informed about regulatory changes affecting UK, Irish, and international pension programs and translate insights into actionable strategies

A day in the life

As a Global Retirement & Risk Manager, your work will span plan management and risk oversight across our international retirement portfolio. Your day might include supporting pension scheme governance activities for the UK and Ireland, such as trustee meeting coordination, reviewing member communications, or assessing regulatory changes from TPR or the Irish Pensions Authority. In the afternoon, you might shift to building a risk dashboard to track compliance metrics across multiple EU countries, or developing a corrective action plan to address an emerging regulatory gap in another market.

You'll work closely with our retirement professionals, legal advisors, trustees, and external consultants on regulatory requirements, vendor management, and plan governance. You'll stay current on evolving pension legislation across the UK, Ireland, and EU, translating those insights into risk-adjusted strategies that keep our programs compliant and resilient.
