About this role

Position: Planning Compliance Officer

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Duration: 12+ Weeks (3+ Months) - 2 days in the office, 3 days remote

Pay Rate: PAYE: £26.78 Per hour

Job Responsibilities

  • Investigate reported breaches of planning control and planning regulations
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and gather evidence
  • Review planning history, plans, and supporting documents
  • Interview members of the public, landowners, and occupiers when required
  • Negotiate with property owners to achieve compliance with planning regulations
  • Prepare reports and recommend appropriate enforcement action
  • Issue enforcement notices and prepare supporting evidence for legal proceedings
  • Liaise with Legal Services and other internal departments
  • Respond to enquiries from the public, councillors, and other stakeholders
  • Support proactive planning enforcement projects and community engagement activities
  • Attend hearings, public inquiries, and court proceedings when required
  • Maintain accurate records using computerised systems and databases

Requirements

  • A Levels or equivalent qualification
  • Previous experience using computerised systems
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Strong record-keeping and report-writing abilities
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation and government guidance
  • Able to work independently, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team
  • Flexible and proactive approach to work
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Willing to undertake site visits, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Eligible to work in the UK

Desirable

  • Degree or diploma in Town & Country Planning or a related discipline
  • Eligibility for RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) membership
  • Experience in planning enforcement or compliance
  • Experience conducting site investigations and collecting evidence
  • Experience interviewing members of the public and taking statements
  • Ability to read and interpret technical plans and drawings
  • Access to a vehicle for site visits

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary, Fixed term contract

Pay: £26.78 per hour
