Job Title: Police Staff Investigator - Proactive Trident - 01

The salary is broken down as £ 37,510 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £ 40,141. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Proactive Trident Team within Specialist Crime of the Metropolitan Police in a new post created as part of the Specialist Crime civilianisation programme.

We are looking for police staff investigators to investigate non-fatal shootings and viable firearms recoveries across London, ensuring evidence is gathered, risks are managed, and victims and communities are safeguarded. The role holder will work as part of a Trident team alongside Detective colleagues, providing professional civilian expertise to strengthen investigative capacity, reduce gun crime and make London safer for those who live and work here. Working within Trident will also provide a unique opportunity for career development across all areas of the Specialist Crime Command.

Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct and progress firearms-related investigations, gathering evidence and intelligence to support prosecution and community safeguarding.

Manage and safeguard risk by liaising with local policing colleagues, local authority partners, and wider agencies, ensuring effective protection of vulnerable people.

Prepare and manage case files, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with legislation to secure successful outcomes at court.

Attend and process crime scenes, seizing and preserving evidence to ensure forensic opportunities are maximised.

Fulfil the role of Exhibits Officer, recording, storing, and submitting exhibits for forensic and digital examination, and present evidence at court when required.

Obtain and record statements through suspect and witness interviews (including visually recorded interviews), ensuring information is gathered lawfully and effectively.

Support warrant applications, attend searches with colleagues, and ensure seizure of material complies with legislation and investigative strategy.

Review and analyse digital, video, and other data sources (including CCTV, body-worn video, and third-party records) to progress investigations.

Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, internal partners, and external stakeholders to coordinate investigation activity and safeguard communities.

Contribute intelligence products, packages, and reviews to support wider operational and organisational learning.

Attend court as required (up to c.15 times per year) to provide evidence and support case progression.

Undertake the relevant Emergency Life Support and Public and Personal Safety Training

Complete the MPS basic driving course.

Who we're looking for

Demonstrable knowledge of criminal investigation processes, particularly in serious and complex cases.

Understanding of safeguarding principles and legislation relevant to vulnerable people.

Knowledge of evidence handling and forensic preservation requirements

Skilled in investigative interviewing of witnesses and suspects, including use of visually recorded interviews.

Strong written skills to prepare accurate and detailed case files, statements, and intelligence reports.

Effective verbal communication skills to liaise with colleagues, courts, and external partners.

Ability to prioritise and manage competing tasks under supervision in high-pressure situations.

Experience working within serious or complex investigations.

Experience in case file preparation and presenting evidence at court.

Experience in working at or attending crime scenes, including applying forensic strategies.

Accreditation in relevant digital tools (e.g., XRY, CSAS)

Essential Criteria

PIP 1

Specialist interview training, Visual Recorded Interview (VRI) training, and exhibits officer training

Full UK Driving Licence
