Role Purpose

The Security Area Coordinator is responsible for the effective day-to-day supervision and coordination of security personnel across their assigned sites.

The role ensures that security operations are delivered safely, professionally and in accordance with client requirements, company policies, legislation and contractual standards.

The post holder will act as a key link between security officers, site management, clients and upper management, ensuring that staffing, operational standards, incidents, welfare, training and performance are effectively managed.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Supervise and coordinate security officers across allocated sites or locations.
  • Ensure all security posts are appropriately staffed and operational.
  • Conduct monthly site visits, patrols and welfare checks.
  • Ensure officers follow assignment instructions, site procedures and company policies.
  • Monitor standards of security, access control, patrols, key control, CCTV monitoring and other duties as applicable.
  • Identify operational risks and implement appropriate corrective action.
  • Provide support during incidents, emergencies and operational disruptions.
  • Ensure appropriate handovers and communication between shifts.

Staff Supervision

  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to security officers.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, uniform standards and professional conduct.
  • Assist and manage staff allocation, shift planning and covering absences.
  • Conduct briefings where required.
  • Identify training and development requirements.
  • Deal with minor performance and conduct issues and escalate serious matters appropriately.
  • Promote good morale, teamwork and professional standards.

Client Management

  • Maintain professional working relationships with clients, site representatives and other stakeholders.
  • Act as an operational point of contact for allocated sites.
  • Respond promptly to client concerns and operational issues.
  • Provide feedback to management regarding client requirements and service performance.
  • Attend meetings and operational reviews when required.
  • Request regular feedback from clients and record appropriately using the company feedback forms

Incident and Emergency Management

  • Respond to and coordinate security incidents within the assigned area.
  • Ensure incidents are reported accurately and promptly.
  • Preserve relevant evidence and information where appropriate.
  • Liaise with emergency services when required.
  • Support investigations into incidents, complaints, breaches of procedure and accidents.
  • Ensure appropriate escalation of serious incidents to senior management.

Compliance and Administration

  • Ensure security personnel comply with company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records, including occurrence books, incident reports, patrol records, attendance records and site inspection reports.
  • Carry out regular compliance and quality checks.
  • Report identified hazards, defects and security vulnerabilities.
  • Support audits and inspections.
  • Ensure company equipment, uniforms, keys, radios and other assets are properly controlled.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Valid SIA licence appropriate to the duties being undertaken.
  • Previous experience in a security supervisory, team leader or senior security officer role.
  • Strong knowledge of security operations and procedures.
  • Good understanding of incident reporting and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to supervise, motivate and manage security personnel.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to complete accurate reports and operational documentation.
  • Professional appearance and conduct.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and operational requirements.
  • Ability to travel between assigned sites where required.

Desirable

  • Experience working across multiple sites or geographical areas.
  • Experience dealing directly with clients.
  • Supervisory or management qualification.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Conflict management or incident management training.
  • Full UK driving licence, preferable, as the role involves multiple sites.

Working Conditions

The role may involve

  • Working days, nights, weekends and public holidays depending on operational requirements.
  • Travelling between multiple sites.
  • Working outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
  • Responding to incidents at short notice.
  • Working in a busy and sometimes challenging security environment.
  • Remaining contactable outside normal office hours where an on-call arrangement applies.

Authority and Escalation

The Security Supervisor / Area Coordinator is expected to take reasonable operational decisions within their authority and promptly escalate serious incidents, staffing issues, health and safety concerns, client complaints, suspected criminal activity and significant breaches of procedure to the appropriate manager.

Overall Objective

To ensure that all assigned security operations are safe, compliant, adequately staffed, professionally delivered and responsive to client requirements, while providing effective leadership and support to the security team.

Pay: £16.00 per hour

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Birmingham B18 6BA
