You’ll oversee compliance across food safety, health & safety, licensing, and security, supporting store teams and protecting colleagues, customers, and the business.

This is a hands‑on role that will grow as the function develops. Over time, you’ll lead a team of Risk Officers, providing coaching, oversight, and consistent standards across the estate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Incident Support — Provide expert advice on investigations, incidents, and compliance issues.
  • Record Keeping — Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely reporting.
  • Risk Leadership — Build a proactive safety culture across the retail network.
  • Coaching & Training — Support Regional and Store Managers with risk awareness and safe practices.
  • Technical Guidance — Act as the main point of contact for compliance queries.
  • Ethical Leadership — Model accountability and responsible decision‑making.
  • Team Development — Recruit, train, and manage Risk Officers as the function grows.
  • Performance Oversight — Set objectives, monitor standards, and ensure consistent audit quality.
  • Field Coordination — Ensure timely response to incidents and enforcement actions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement — Work closely with Retail, HR, and Facilities teams.
  • External Partnerships — Build relationships with pest control, waste management, and security providers.
  • Reporting & Insights — Analyse trends and share recommendations with senior leadership.
  • Regulatory Representation — Attend regulatory meetings and enforcement discussions.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years in retail risk, compliance, or health & safety.
  • Strong knowledge of food hygiene, health & safety, and licensing legislation.
  • Experience conducting audits and managing enforcement activity.
  • Confident coaching and influencing operational leaders.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • NEBOSH or equivalent qualification (desirable).
  • Ability to travel extensively across the retail estate.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience developing teams or functions.

Why Join Us?

  • High impact — Play a key role in keeping colleagues and customers safe.
  • Real ownership — Lead compliance activity across a multi‑site retail network.
  • Growing function — Shape and develop the Risk team as the business expands.
  • Valued role — Your expertise directly influences operational standards and business confidence.
