Overview

Your regulatory experience from policing shows compliance discipline, but this role requires financial-sector expertise.

About this role

Compliance Officer — London | Hedge Fund

A fast-growing hedge fund managing approximately $2 billion in AUM is looking for its first dedicated compliance hire in London. Backed by an established multi-manager investment platform with offices across the US and UK, this is a rare opportunity to build and own the UK compliance function from the ground up, with real ownership and visibility from day one.

The role

Based in Mayfair London, you will lead the UK compliance programme, hold SMF16 (Compliance Oversight) and SMF17 (MLRO) responsibilities, and spearhead the firm’s FCA authorisation application. You will coordinate closely with the wider Legal and Compliance team in the US to align UK and SEC obligations, review external managers’ compliance manuals and due diligence documentation, prepare regulatory filings, and act as the sole compliance presence in the London office, reporting directly to the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.

What you’ll bring

  • 5+ years of compliance experience at a hedge fund, asset manager, compliance consulting firm, or financial institution
  • Deep, working FCA knowledge, with familiarity with SEC, AIFMD, and MiFID frameworks
  • Expertise in private funds and investment management compliance
  • Experience with cross-border compliance and international regulatory frameworks
  • Eligibility for SMF16 and SMF17 approved person status
  • Confidence working autonomously in an entrepreneurial environment, with strong communication skills across portfolio managers, traders, and senior stakeholders
