Overview

Your fraud investigation and evidence-handling experience supports financial crime work, though marine sanctions expertise is a prerequisite.

About this role

We’re hiring: Financial Crime Manager

Hybrid, London | Deputy MLRO | Marine sanctions experience essential

Optio is looking for a Financial Crime Manager to lead the day-to-day financial crime framework across our UK regulated entities and support the wider group.

This is a hybrid role with a London base, with occasional travel between offices and attendance at meetings and industry events when required. The successful candidate will also act as Deputy MLRO, working closely with the Head of Compliance and the wider business.

The role covers sanctions, money laundering and terrorist financing, bribery and corruption, and fraud.

Marine sanctions experience is a mandatory requirement

Candidates must have direct, hands-on experience of marine sanctions, including:

  • Vessel screening
  • Sanctions alert adjudication and escalation
  • Advising on marine and specialty risks
  • Working across OFSI, OFAC, EU and UN sanctions regimes
  • Assessing dual-use exposure and the reach of US sanctions on dollar-denominated business

Applications from candidates without practical marine sanctions and vessel-screening experience will not be progressed.

Key responsibilities include

  • Owning financial crime policies, procedures, risk assessments and controls
  • Managing sanctions screening, list updates, alerts, escalations and decision records
  • Advising underwriters and the wider business on complex sanctions matters
  • Overseeing financial crime risk across delegated authority arrangements, coverholders and brokers
  • Monitoring premium and claims flows for financial crime indicators
  • Deputising for the MLRO and supporting SAR and DAML decision-making
  • Managing screening and case-management systems
  • Producing financial crime management information for senior stakeholders
  • Tracking FCA, Lloyd’s and sanctions developments

We are looking for someone with at least two years’ relevant financial crime experience in insurance or financial services. London Market, MGA or delegated authority experience is strongly preferred.

You will need strong knowledge of the UK financial crime framework, practical experience of name and vessel screening, and the confidence to advise and challenge stakeholders across the business. A recognised qualification such as ICA or ACAMS would be an advantage.
