We are looking for a motivated and highly organised Financial Investigation Officer to join our Community Protection Team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in recovering outstanding debts arising from local authority enforcement activities, including housing, anti-social behaviour and other regulatory functions. You will help ensure that penalties, costs and charges are recovered lawfully, proportionately and effectively, protecting public funds while supporting vulnerable residents.

Working in a varied and challenging environment, you will investigate complex cases, negotiate repayment arrangements, prepare legal documentation and work closely with internal and external partners to achieve positive outcomes.

As a Financial Investigation Officer, you will lead on the administration, recovery and enforcement of financial penalties, costs, charges and debts across Community Protection services.

You will manage a portfolio of cases from initial recovery activity through to court and tribunal proceedings where necessary, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, council policies and best practice standards.

The role requires excellent communication, investigative and analytical skills, alongside the ability to deal confidently with challenging situations and sensitive customer interactions.

We will provide all the training and experience needed to help the successful candidate to achieve the desired level of competence.

It is critical that the successful applicant will be able to show an aptitude for this type of work. Closely working with colleagues from the Council’s legal department and other external partners where necessary.

This role is based in the UK. Home Office guidance states that candidates must evidence their right to work in the UK prior to commencing employment, either as a UK or Irish citizen, under the EU Settlement scheme or having secured any other relevant work visa.
