About this role

Compliance Officer

Benefits: Company vehicle, 29 days’ holiday including bank holidays, pension, ongoing training and development

Build a career where your work genuinely makes a difference

Beechwood Trees and Landscapes Ltd is a well-established Arboricultural Association Approved Contractor delivering arboriculture and landscaping services to local authorities, housing providers, commercial clients and infrastructure projects.

We are continuing to grow, and we are looking for an organised, practical and people-focused Compliance Officer to help us maintain high standards across our depots, sites, equipment and operational teams.

This is not a role where you will spend all day behind a desk producing paperwork. You will be visible across the business, working closely with managers, operatives, mechanics and the administration team to make sure people have the right equipment, training, support and systems to do their jobs safely and effectively.

You will join a supportive management team where your ideas will be listened to, your contribution will be valued and you will have the opportunity to shape how the role develops.

What you will be doing

Your role will combine compliance, resource planning, people support and operational oversight.

You will

  • oversee our compliance systems and ensure inspections, checks and records remain current;
  • complete regular depot and site audits, helping teams address any issues quickly and constructively;
  • monitor LOLER, PUWER, vehicle and equipment inspection requirements;
  • ensure plant, vehicles, tools and PPE are serviceable, available and properly recorded;
  • work with our plant mechanic and managers to plan servicing and reduce equipment downtime;
  • maintain company accreditations, including Arb Approved, ISO, CHAS and SafeContractor;
  • support incident, near-miss and accident investigations and ensure actions are completed;
  • coordinate staff inductions, training records and the company skills matrix;
  • prepare and deliver practical safety briefings and toolbox talks;
  • support recruitment, onboarding and the development of future talent;
  • work alongside managers to improve labour utilisation, planning and operational efficiency;
  • act as an important link between our operational teams, office staff and senior management.

The full role has clear and measurable standards around inspections, training, equipment availability, depot organisation and compliance performance.

What the role will feel like

You will have variety, responsibility and the freedom to organise your workload.

One day you may be visiting a site and supporting a manager with an audit. The next, you may be coordinating training, reviewing equipment records or helping the depot team resolve an operational issue.

The purpose of the role is not to catch people out. It is to help our teams work safely, stay organised and have the equipment and support they need to deliver a good job.

You will be trusted to take ownership, make practical improvements and bring structure to the business.

About you

We are looking for someone who is

  • organised, dependable and comfortable taking ownership;
  • approachable and able to build positive working relationships;
  • confident speaking with both operational teams and senior managers;
  • practical, solutions-focused and able to follow issues through to completion;
  • comfortable managing records, inspections, audits and action plans;
  • able to balance safety and compliance with the realities of a busy operational business;
  • a clear communicator with good report-writing and administrative skills.

Experience within arboriculture, landscaping, construction, utilities or another operational industry would be an advantage, but it is not essential.

We are more interested in finding the right person with strong organisational skills, sound judgement and a genuine interest in helping people and improving standards.

Experience in any of the following would be useful

  • health and safety or quality compliance;
  • fleet, plant or equipment management;
  • depot or operational management;
  • audits and inspections;
  • staff training, recruitment or onboarding;
  • ISO, CHAS, SafeContractor or similar accreditations;
  • LOLER, PUWER or work equipment compliance.

Formal qualifications such as IOSH, NEBOSH, internal auditor training or relevant industry qualifications would be beneficial, but we are prepared to support further training for the right candidate. The previous role profile asked for extensive industry and qualification experience, but the wider requirements show that strong leadership, organisation and communication are equally important to succeeding in the position.

What you can expect from Beechwood

  • Company vehicle
  • 29 days’ holiday including bank holidays
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • A varied role with genuine influence across the company
  • Support from an established management and administration team
  • The opportunity to improve systems rather than simply maintain them
  • A friendly working environment where people know and support one another
  • Company social and charity activities

We want this to be a role you enjoy and feel proud of. You will be given clear expectations, support when you need it and the opportunity to develop as the company continues to grow.

Apply

Please apply through Indeed with your CV and a short covering note explaining why the role interests you and which of your skills would transfer well into the position.

Pay: £36,420.00-£41,955.76 per year
